like this series too. they look like line drawings, maybe even ink, but see they are manipulated photos.
Black is such a beautiful color i would tell my grade school teacher. She wanted me to like a real color as she said. I told my painter grandmother and she reminded me that black was the essence of all colors, all things, the very thing that draws us in and keeps us interested. I was too young to properly tell my teacher that, so i just kept using black and won her over. One day at a teacher parent day at school she found my mother and told her that i was her favorite student. My mother loved that and probably was the only teacher ever to say that to her.
It would be a very poor world if people were not left alone to use any color -or shape- to express themselves.. That's a sweet story..
I love black..i think it's powerful and fundamental, as much as it is minimal and ambiguous.. ..and thank you very much again..it's one of those things i have in mind but never got around to do, making some of these images with paint.
Black is beautiful, I use quite often in the studio.
There are so so many that have rigid attitudes, in life and art. I have always just felt what you feel you must follow. I worked on a series called Mercury that started with the blackest black paint and then colors were added onto in layers. I burnt out eventually but some great results and fun. Here's one. [link]
and on a similar vein, but maybe way off topic
There is a supposed man running for high office presented with a real person, supposed man really can not quite relate, as his rigidity is ceaseless and dangerous. Here it is uncovered. I enjoy when politicians can not help themselves but show their trueness. Not in always in words, but their uncomfortable and rigid behavior.
The Mercury series is great..I particularly liked 'Cartoonesque' and 'The Past Before Me'.. I also looked at your Polaroids on your site..'Rain Down the Tide' is one of my favorites..and the 'Orange VW' Much more to see..
That video was interesting to watch..and one could not expect any other reaction from a caricature of a politician like he is.. Though all politicians, imo, act as puppets, i think that there are some that drag their rigidity intact in the game..Unfortunately, politics is just a legalized way for some to gain power and money..Rigidity and flexibility only create byproducts..
..and yes, i am now (since two years ago) an american citizen..but i was born and raised in Athens, Greece, and have lived and studied in England. Thank you..it's not too much ..i tend to stay away from the internet for short or longer periods at times, hence my responses may be delayed.
Thanks. Mercury was my favorite series i have done in years. Appreciate you noticing them. I still do love them, the ones that are still around. 'The Past Before Me' one of my personal favs. I exhibited those in galleries for awhile, till I in a way burnt out on them. I may go back to them someday.
I do enjoy shooting Polaroids, even though good film I prefer is impossible to get a hold of any longer, but there are rumors of some good color film being soon available through a company out of Vienna. The present stuff they produce is okay, but i desire real gorgeous color film. So there is hope for some new beautiful images in the future. Most film i use now is expired Polaroid film, in varied degrees of deterioration. So occasionally do get some cool startling images.
That video, ha..... this is an election year, so the games continues. I am a Democrat, so the dye is cast on my choice.
Congratulations.... if that is accepted and in order becoming a citizen. I live out on the west coast. I was in Greece a couple times when i was studying painting. Beautiful light as i recall. Good luck with your studies in Britain. A good place to do it. What were/are you studying?
No worries on the response, sounds like you are smart staying away. It can become a bit addictive or annoying however you might consider it. I do a lot of writing and the computer sure beats what we had before. Plus i do most of my art business via email, strange, but i became used to it.
